Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Riverine Flood Warning for March 12, 2026, 02:31:12 UTC through March 13, 2026, 02:31:24 UTC for Longreach, Queensland, Australia.

It is estimated that 11,400 people, 4,570 households, and $1.17 Billion (USD) of infrastructure* are within the affected area(s). Exposure estimates will be refined as additional data from official sources becomes available.

Major Flood Warning for Thomson River, Thomson River at Camoola Park, Thomson River at Longreach, Thomson River at Stonehenge and Thomson River at Jundah
The Thomson River at Camoola Park is currently at 5.00 m and rising, with moderate flooding. The Thomson River at Camoola Park may exceed the major flood level (6.70 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. The river may peak above the major flood level (6.70 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. Forecasts will be updated as peaks are observed upstream at Muttaburra.

The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 4.15 m and steady, with minor flooding. The Thomson River at Longreach is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (4.30 m) from overnight Thursday into Friday, then exceed the major flood level (5.30 m) from late Friday. The river may exceed 6.00 m late Saturday, and continue rising through the weekend. A significant major flood peak is expected at Longreach, which may occur from as early as Sunday, but at this stage is more likely to be early next week.

The Thomson River at Stonehenge is currently at 3.05 m and steady, with moderate flooding. The Thomson River at Stonehenge is expected to remain around the moderate flood level (3.00 m) into the weekend. Renewed river level rises and higher levels are expected from around the middle of next week. Forecasts will be updated as upstream peaks are observed.

The Thomson River at Jundah is currently at 4.80 m and steady, with moderate flooding. The Thomson River at Jundah is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) for the next few days. Renewed river level rises and higher levels are expected from mid to late next week. Forecasts will be updated as upstream peaks are observed.

Major Flood Warning for Barcoo River to Isisford, Barcoo River at Blackall, Jordan Creek at Jericho, Alice River at Barcaldine and Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office
Major flooding was observed along the Alice River at Capricorn Highway during Wednesday afternoon. Moderate flooding is occurring at Barcaldine and near moderate flooding is occurring at Barcaldine Weir.

No observations are currently available for the Barcoo River at Blackall. The river level is estimated to be above the minor flood level (2.00 m) based on the nearby automatic gauge. The Barcoo River at Blackall may remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) from the remainder of Thursday and into Friday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

The Jordan Creek at Jericho was 2.60 m at 7:45 am Wednesday, with moderate flooding. The Jordan Creek at Jericho may remain above the moderate flood level (2.30 m) for the remainder of Thursday and into Friday.

The Alice River at Barcaldine is currently at 5.40 m and rising, above the moderate flood level (5.00 m). The Alice River at Barcaldine may exceed the major flood level (6.00 m) during the remainder of Thursday, and may peak above the major flood level (6.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday.

The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office is currently at 2.60 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Barcoo River at Isisford Post Office may exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) from overnight Thursday into Friday. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (5.00 m) during Friday. Higher levels may be possible.

Major Flood Warning for Cooper Creek and Cooper Creek at Windorah
The Cooper Creek at Windorah is currently at 5.25 m and steady, with major flooding. The Cooper Creek at Windorah may remain around the current level (around 5.30 m) during the remainder of Thursday, with major flooding. The creek may remain above the major flood level (5.00 m) into the weekend.
