Event Description
A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Balochistan Province in southwestern Pakistan on the morning of 13 February 2026, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was located at a shallow depth of approximately 10 km, about 79 km northeast of Khuzdar, a mountainous area with scattered rural communities.
The tremor was also felt in parts of Sindh and Punjab, as well as nearby villages, causing fear among residents, though no major damage was immediately reported at the time of publication.
Humanitarian Conditions
As of the time of reporting, no confirmed fatalities or injuries have been recorded, and no displacement has been reported.
However, communities in remote mountainous villages remain potentially vulnerable due to limited access to emergency services and weak health infrastructure.
Security Situation
No exceptional security measures have been announced so far. Emergency services remain on heightened alert in case of possible aftershocks.
There have been no reports of major road collapses or critical infrastructure damage, though access to remote villages could become challenging if secondary impacts occur.
Organizations' Response
Local authorities and civil protection teams initiated rapid field assessments in areas close to the epicenter to verify structural safety and potential damages.
Public awareness messages were circulated, reminding residents of earthquake safety procedures in the event of aftershocks.
Recommendations
Strengthen seismic monitoring and early warning systems in Balochistan and neighboring regions.
Conduct rapid structural safety assessments of older and vulnerable buildings in rural areas.
Maintain high readiness of emergency response teams for potential aftershocks.
Expand community awareness campaigns on earthquake preparedness and response.
Integrate disaster risk reduction approaches into local development planning.
